Bye Bye Bacteria

cleaning-countertopBrand new kitchen countertops and bathroom countertops have to be properly cared for to ensure that they will last for many years to come. They are usually pretty dirty and grimy after a kitchen or bathroom remodel, so some people think that they have to use harsh chemicals on them to get them clean, but this isn’t true. Many cleaning agents will strip away the shine and damage the surface of the kitchen countertops and bathroom countertops. Luckily, there is an easy way to keep them spotless and germ-free using your own homemade cleaner.

This homemade cleaner works best on most standard types of countertops, but if you had granite installed in your kitchen remodel or bathroom remodel, you shouldn’t use it because it might strip away the granite sealant. To make the cleaner, first fill a resealable tub with a half of a cup of white vinegar, one tablespoon of dish soap, and a half of a cup of water. Mix the ingredients well. Then, fold sheets of durable paper towels into squares, and put a stack of them directly into the solution. This will give you homemade cleaning wipes that can be kept handy for cleaning up messes. The acetic acid in vinegar makes it a very effective disinfectant. An alternative to vinegar is hydrogen peroxide.

Each cleaning wipe costs only pennies to make, which makes frequently refilling the container of them very cost effective. However, if you are concerned about the environmental impact of having disposable products, clean squares of linen fabric can be used instead. That way they can be thrown into the washing machine when you are done with them. Just be sure to do a separate load of laundry for all of the reusable wipes to avoid any staining of your clothing with dirt and liquids from messy spills.
